Using Clean, Renewable Energy

The building sector accounts for about 70% of our total electricity usage in the U.S.  Most electricity produced and consumed in New Mexico comes from coal-fired power plants.  This means that businesses can make a significant difference in lowering their environmental impact by switching to clean, renewable energy sources for electricity.

You can utilize wind power generated on New Mexico’s eastern plains through PNM’s wind energy program.  Alternatively, you can purchase renewable energy certificates from credible third-party entities.

There are a number of exciting developments that will make it significantly more affordable to install solar panels and solar water heaters on your rooftop.  More information on these developments is provided at the bottom of this page – and stay tuned as programs and policies are approved and established.

Developments in Solar Energy 2013 - STAY TUNED

PNM has redeveloped its program and incentives for rooftop solar energy production.  Their new plan is now awaiting approval by the New Mexico Public Regulation Commission (NM PRC).  We’ll provide updated information as it becomes available.

Also stay tuned for more details as the City of Albuquerque develops a Renewable Energy Financing District.  This financing mechanism will make it significantly more affordable to install renewable energy systems by allowing property owners to fold the cost of such systems into their property taxes.
